Job Description

The General Shop Technician is a unionized position that provides automated meter services including tests of meter equipment, building metering assemblies, cleaning watt hour electric meters, and other shop based functions on meters.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with electric meters removed from the field. Designated work includes testing of meter equipment, building metering assemblies, and meter cleaning.
  • Perform calibration tests on each meter and stage meters for disposal.
  • Operation of computerized equipment and moving around pallets of materials.
  • Provides support to field based technicians including assisting with loading and unloading of vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • ​High School Degree or Equivalent
  • ​​Proficient computer skills including data entry
  • ​Forklift experience/ ability to move materials with a pallet jack
  • ​Valid Driver’s License, with a satisfactory driving record required​

Working Environment:

Work is generally performed in a warehouse environment. The noise level is moderately quiet. Generally well ventilated and well lighted. Warehouse employees may be exposed to all kinds of weather and may be required to wear protective clothing. Operates heavy equipment. Strict safety regulations may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • ​​Work is physically strenuous and workers are required to lift heavy packages up to 50 pounds.
  • ​​Work may require excessive bending or stooping.
  • ​​Employee required to walk long distances repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Employee required to climb ladders.
  • ​​Employee required to use hand tools.
  • ​​Employee uses heavy machinery (e.g., forklift, etc.).

Mental Requirements:

  • ​​Employee required to calibrate precise measurements.
  • ​​Employee required to problem-solve.
  • ​​Employee required to communicate with the public.


This amount is what we reasonably believe we will pay for the position; however, offer amounts may vary based on factors such as geographic location, relevant education, experience, qualifications, skills, shift, or any collective bargaining agreements.

For eligible positions, compensation may include participation in a bonus or sales incentive plan, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plan documents. For certain sales roles, Wesco also offers a commission structure that provides additional compensation based on sales results, as defined by the applicable commission plan.
