This Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician to support a variety of munitions response actions and operational range clearance activities. This position plays a critical role in field operations involving the detection, identification, recovery, and disposal of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and other munitions and explosives of concern (MEC).

The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and experience supporting military munitions response and range clearance projects.

Your Impact

  • Perform reconnaissance, identification, and classification of unexploded ordnance (UXO), including U.S. and foreign missiles, bombs, projectiles, grenades, rockets, land mines, pyrotechnics, military explosives, demolition materials, and associated fuzing systems.
  • Conduct subsurface UXO investigations utilizing magnetometers and other approved detection equipment.
  • Perform excavation and recovery of buried UXO using manual and mechanical methods.
  • Locate and identify surface UXO through visual inspection and field reconnaissance activities.
  • Establish and maintain safe holding areas for recovered UXO.
  • Perform storage, accountability, and handling of UXO and demolition materials in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Prepare UXO disposal sites and support demolition operations.
  • Assemble and prepare non-electric, electric, and detonating cord firing systems for UXO disposal activities.
  • Conduct disposal of UXO and explosive materials through approved burn or detonation methods.
  • Adhere to all site-specific health and safety requirements, explosive safety standards, and project procedures.
  • Support technical documentation, field reporting, and operational data collection efforts.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Meet the qualifications and perform the functions of a UXO Technician II (UXO-TII) as defined in DoD Explosives Safety Board Technical Paper 18.
  • Minimum 3 years of EOD/UXO experience, including significant experience supporting munitions response actions and/or range clearance activities.
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification with annual refresher training.
  • Demonstrated experience recognizing munitions and explosives of concern (MEC), particularly unexploded ordnance (UXO).
  • Knowledge of explosive safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work safely in remote field environments and under varying weather conditions.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel and support field assignments as required.
  • Due to client requirements, US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or other federal UXO remediation projects.
  • Familiarity with magnetometer operations and geophysical investigation methods.
  • Experience supporting demolition and disposal operations.
  • Previous experience working within an Explosive Safety Program.
  • Current explosives safety and UXO-related certifications beyond minimum requirements.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $33.32 - $45.82

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
