Orchid Insurance, an Arrowhead Intermediaries company, is seeking an Underwriting Supervisor to join our growing team.

The Underwriting Supervisor is proficient in all aspects of underwriting, including new and renewal business, and integrates inspection findings to support sound risk decisions. They have the authority to approve, modify, or reject risks based on carrier guidelines and assist with risk assessments during high workloads or complex cases. This role provides guidance on complex cases, ensures consistency in underwriting practices, and contributes to team performance evaluation. The supervisor develops training materials, supports special projects, and process improvement initiatives. They assist the Underwriting Manager by monitoring workloads and aligning risk assessments with business objectives.

Work Schedule:

Position hours are 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time (ET) to support California and West Coast operations. Consistent availability during these hours is required.

How You Will Contribute:

• Coordinate with the Underwriting Manager to develop strategies to meet new business production, retention, and underwriting profitability goals.
• Assist in developing and maintaining Orchid Underwriting service standards and best practices.
• Ensure underwriting activities adhere to carrier guidelines and Orchid Underwriting best practices.
• Help to lead an Underwriting team in all aspects of service, quality, and production.
• Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring the underwriting team validates business functionalities and system improvements to meet operational needs and enhance business performance.
• Set and measure specific production and quality goals for new business underwriting, renewal underwriting, and inspection underwriting.
• Provides phone/chat coverage support as deemed necessary to meet client service levels, while monitoring and managing service level standards, call volume, and overall performance to ensure service level goals.
• Effectively coordinate with other areas within Orchid such as the Senior Leadership, Programs, and Sales/Marking teams to support achieving Orchid’s business objectives.
• Help identify and implement improved processes and drive efficiency to reduce expenses.
• Gather, maintain, and share current market knowledge to assist Orchid in developing effective product and pricing strategies.
• Support teammates through guidance, mentorship, training, and development in their endeavors to meet their professional goals.
• Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, encouraging professional growth and development.

Skills & Experience to Be Successful:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years of California homeowners underwriting experience with demonstrated expertise in wildfire risk assessment and management, including evaluation of brush exposure, defensible space, wildfire mitigation strategies, and risk selection related to wildfire.
• Experience underwriting High Value Homes within the Surplus Lines market is strongly preferred.
• Proficient in all aspects of underwriting, including new business, renewals, and the integration of inspection findings to inform risk decisions.
• Possess or acquire and maintain a Florida 2-20 General Lines Agent license, or the equivalent resident-state General Lines Property & Casualty insurance producer license as required by the teammate's state of residence.
• Actively maintain required licenses and participate in continuing education. Provide insights and feedback to management on underwriting trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service orientation.
