The Group Underwriting Best Practices & Training Specialist provides training and leadership to the Group Underwriting staff by acting as a key resource in their development and provides integral support to the Management team in aspects of performance development. The role will oversee the development, maintenance and communication of all underwriting guidelines & procedures, reporting, training programs as well as the planning and execution of all Quality Assurance programs. The role will be required to remain current on all industry trends and changes to ensure that practices and training programs align with statutory requirements and best practices.

How you will create impact:

  • Providing training to all new and existing Underwriting staff.
  • Co-ordinating and facilitating training sessions, case studies and presentations to the Underwriting team as well as other Group Benefits departments and Sales teams.
  • Developing structured training programs that promote self-serve capabilities as well as enhance/modify existing programs to reflect the needs of the respective areas, procedures and learning styles.
  • Developing, facilitating and overseeing a structured Quality Assurance program.
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of underwriting guidelines, procedures, agreements and process manuals to make sure that they are current, competitive and comply with corporate policies.
  • Monitoring, communicating and supporting staff in understanding any changes or updates to existing procedures, projects or initiatives.
  • Building positive relationships and provide necessary support to both internal and external clients, departments, auditors and reinsurers.

To join our team:

  • You have a post-secondary diploma or industry equivalent.
  • You have 5 years’ experience in the Group Underwriting field or strong Group Benefits knowledge
  • You have experience with developing & delivering adult learning programs.
  • You have excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Having or working towards Associate, Customer Service (ACS), Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and/or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation an asset.

Expected salary range $72,847 - $121,411

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.​​

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
