Job Description

The Underwriting Assistant supports the underwriting team in the evaluation, pricing, and issuance of commercial insurance programs. This role focuses on Workers’ Compensation, Commercial Auto, and General Liability, with exposure to loss-sensitive and loss-rated structures.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 3–5 years of experience in commercial insurance, underwriting support, or rating. Experience with casualty lines (WC, Auto, GL) preferred. Familiarity with NCCI, WCIRB, and/or ISO (a plus). College degree not required.

CORE SKILLS:

  • Strong analytical and detail-oriented mindset
  • Working knowledge of commercial rating and underwriting fundamentals
  • Proficiency in Excel and working with data
  • Clear communication and ability to collaborate with underwriters, carriers, and brokers
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support underwriters in reviewing submissions, classifications, and exposure data
  • Assist with rating and pricing, including loss-sensitive components
  • Analyze loss runs and supporting underwriting information
  • Prepare quotes, binders, and policy documentation
  • Coordinate with carrier partners on risk selection and pricing inputs
  • Communicate with brokers and internal teams to gather information and move accounts forward
  • Support policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, and file maintenance
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in all underwriting activities

PRIORITIES: Casualty lines, rating accuracy, risk evaluation support, carrier & broker communication and operational execution
