The Underwriter is responsible for assessing and analyzing risk within our Small Group and Small Case ASO blocks of business. This role is well-suited to an inquisitive individual who enjoys continuous learning and applying their knowledge to a variety of complex and evolving scenarios. This position represents a clear path forward to our Senior Underwriting positions!

What you will do

  • Assess and evaluate risk for Small Group business on behalf of the Company
  • Review, analyze, and approve new group policies and amendments to existing policies
  • Evaluate and determine appropriate renewal rates for Small Case ASO, Health, and LTD Financial Management cases
  • Identify and assess complex situations, negotiate mutually acceptable solutions, and act as a technical resource to Sales (Field offices) and Head Office partners
  • Support cross-functional collaboration by providing underwriting expertise to internal stakeholders
  • Prepare reports and analysis for Management using Excel and Access

What you bring

  • Previous underwriting experience is considered an asset
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively with Sales, team members, and internal partners
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Customer-focused mindset
  • Strong mathematical aptitude
  • Sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Prior experience in Group Benefits, including knowledge of products and the Group Mainframe (PAS) system, is an asset
  • Willingness to pursue a GBA or full CEBS designation
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada  website.  The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.

The base salary for this position is between $48,400 - $72,600 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
