Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Underwriter based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to support profitable growth within a personal lines insurance portfolio while providing expert underwriting guidance and solutions.
You will evaluate risks, review policy decisions, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver strong customer outcomes.
The position combines technical underwriting expertise, relationship management, and analytical decision-making in a dynamic insurance environment.
You will contribute to improving processes, maintaining quality standards, and supporting business objectives through sound risk assessment.

Accountabilities:

    The Underwriter is responsible for assessing and managing personal lines insurance risks while supporting business growth and maintaining strong service standards. The role requires balancing technical expertise, customer focus, and effective communication to deliver accurate underwriting decisions.

    • Review, analyze, and underwrite new business, endorsements, renewals, and referral files within established guidelines and authority levels.
    • Provide underwriting guidance and support regarding policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and risk assessment decisions.
    • Evaluate information accuracy, identify potential solutions, and prepare recommendations for complex files.
    • Maintain clear and complete documentation aligned with quality standards and best practices.
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to strengthen relationships and support business objectives.
    • Participate in quality reviews, problem-solving discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure all work is completed within agreed service levels, production expectations, and regulatory requirements.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate brings solid underwriting experience, strong analytical abilities, and the confidence to make sound risk-based decisions. This role requires attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

      • 3–5 years of underwriting experience required.
      • Enrollment in or active pursuit of a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
      • Experience in the non-standard auto insurance market and/or a broker office environment is considered an asset.
      • Knowledge of the Alberta regional insurance market and broker landscape is an advantage.
      • Strong negotiation, customer service, and communication skills.
      • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
      • Ability to collaborate with colleagues while also managing responsibilities independently.
      • Experience with Guidewire or similar insurance technology platforms is considered an asset.
