Role: Underwriter

Reports to: Undewriting Manager

Salary band: R30k - 35k/month

Location: Hybrid, Cape Town CBD

Key Day to Day Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate loan applications submitted by small and medium-sized businesses in Ireland. This includes identifying revenue sources, reviewing both personal and business credit histories, analyzing banking and open banking data, examining financial statements, and conducting online due diligence.
• Perform detailed financial and risk assessments to determine creditworthiness, and support lending decisions in line with internal criteria
• Participate in client calls, particularly for higher-value applications, to better understand borrower needs and assess suitability
• Coordinate with the operations team to ensure timely disbursement of funds, set up automated repayments, and establish facilitator accounts as needed.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including operations, sales, technology, and partnerships to streamline the lending process.
• Support the collections and legal teams by tracking loan performance and assisting with recovery actions when necessary.
• Keep informed about economic conditions, regulatory changes, and market developments relevant to the Irish lending landscape.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of underwriting policies and procedures tailored to the Irish market.
• Collaborate with the tech team to design and develop automated underwriting workflows, including integrations with data providers and open banking platforms
• Reviews and develops underwriting policies and processes specific to the Irish market
• Helping tech team scope out and build automated processes for underwriting (including building integrations to processing partners, openbanking APIs
