The Underwriter I assesses risk exposures and evaluates the most prudent terms to apply for small and non-complex New Business Acquisitions, Renewals and mid-year amendments ensuring the company yields a profit while achieving the targeted gross income, market share, managing relationships with producers, clients and achieving customer excellence.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Risk Assessment
• Conduct risk assessment/appraisal of non-complex new business and renewal risks which includes accepting or declining the risk, determining most appropriate rates, terms and conditions.
• Apply due diligence checks and background research on clients and their risk to be covered
• Prepare / Provide Quotations/New Business/Renewal Reviews/Renewals/Amendments within GGIL’s underwriting guidelines, standard operating procedures, approved underwriting limits of authority and reinsurance treaties
• Reviewing of policies and ensuring all notices and renewal listings are sent out in accordance with guidelines prior to renewal date
• Review and discuss Renewals with all Stakeholders to achieve retention target
• Follow up with clients or producers on renewals
• Conduct portfolio analysis and analysis on assigned accounts to monitor performance.
2. Monitoring and Reporting
• Monitor Aggregates and beachfront exposure that allows for informed decision making to avoid over exposure
• Assist administrative team with collating executive report to identify trends and address gaps thus extending greater support to Agents for improved performance
3. Quality Checks
• Where applicable, review underwriting transactions by binding brokers / agents to ensure accuracy and compliance with GGIL’s underwriting guidelines, SOPs and limits of authority
• Ensure that all bordereaux are submitted and processed timely
• Source missing information from agents to ensure the correct data is captured
• Conduct monthly bordereau checks / audits
• Complete underwriting audit of random files to ensure producer complies with company’s procedures
4. Receivables Management
• Manage receivables in accordance with CBTT’s requirements, avoiding any negative implications on solvency of GGI, ensuring adequate cash flow for claims and investments
• Ensure premiums are paid within the contract timeframes; support the cancellation process
• Follow up on outstanding premiums from clients/ producers
5. Relationship Management
• Develop and maintain effective business relationships with producers (where applicable) to support growth objectives
6. Any other duties as assigned by the Team Leader or Manager
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• 5 O’ levels including Math and English
• 2 A levels/CAPE
• Mandatory State licensing or CII Insurance Certificate or working towards same
• Entry Level Underwriter Experience
• At least 2 years customer service experience
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.

The Underwriter 1 must possess strong analytical skills with an acute attention to detail, a positive work ethic, keen sense of customer service and good business acumen. He/ she must possess a positive, friendly attitude, have the ability to operate and contribute positively in a team-based environment and take initiative; as evidenced by the ability to self-manage, organize and prioritize work. He/ She must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrate good negotiating skills and have the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
