Job Description

We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Underground Equipment Operator in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by L2150.

Installation, maintenance, and repair of underground conduit and manhole systems used for transmission, sub-transmission, secondary, primary, and energized substations for the entire WE territory. Digging splice pits for URD and cable repairs using heavy equipment and by hand. Tailgate conferencing, job prep work, material ordering, job layout, traffic control, and barricading.

Job Responsibilities

The Underground Equipment Operator performs the following duties:

  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of underground conduit and manhole systems used for transmission, sub-transmission, secondary, primary, and energized substations for the entire WE territory
  • Digging splice pits for URD and cable repairs using heavy equipment and by hand
  • Tailgate conferencing, job prep work, material ordering, job layout, traffic control, and barricading

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience in operation of construction equipment, including earth excavation and/or aerial lift equipment (i.e., backhoes, trenchers, cranes, excavators, etc.)
  • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and meet the company’s requirements for driving. The selected applicant must obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) within 90 days of entry into the job
  • Applicant must comply with DOT commercial driver’s license (CDL) drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Candidates may be required to demonstrate their ability to perform the physical functions of the position by completing a Physical Capacity Evaluation

Testing Requirements

Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) - Other level: Comprehension of pictured mechanical principles such as gears, levers, pulley systems, water flow, etc.; arithmetic skills in calculating distances shown in prints and drawings; and the ability to read and understand written material.

End Date: 04/10/2026

Minimum Posting Range: $27.16

Maximum Posting Range: $45.34

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
