HumeLink West Project

UGL and CPB Contractors are recruiting for a Civil Undergraduate Engineer to join the Humelink West Project in Wagga Wagga.

Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the 130km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.

HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.

The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning 130kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

What will a day look like in this role

This is an opportunity to work in your profession on a Casual or Part-time basis whilst undertaking tertiary studies in engineering.

  • Lead and contribute to a “Safety First” culture through leadership and participation in HSE activities and initiatives
  • Assist with all procurement and purchases of goods and services required to install engineering changes
  • Attend engineering reviews, safety reviews, risk reviews and progress meetings as required
  • Review and plan the project with the project team to ensure technical aspects of the job are clear and to become familiar with contractual arrangements made with the client
  • Liaise with the Project controls department to manage schedule issues and status of activities
  • Assessment of risks and hazards involved in tasks and methods to manage the hazards to prevent incidents, injury, and damage
  • Preparation of reports and attend the report meetings with the client, as required
  • Engage with wider team communication and consultation – e.g., team meetings and toolbox talks
  • Comply with established Company WH&S Policies and Procedures
  • Represent and promote the business values and business whilst providing a value for money service to the business
  • Ensure the quality requirements of the client are adhered to and liaise with NSM’s Quality Lead
  • Support resolution of technical problems relating to project scopes and materials supply

About you

Essential

  • Must be currently progressing a Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Civil Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and professional, responsive, insightful, and decisive decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally
  • Ability and willingness to adapt and quickly learn new skills to enact processes and use project tools
  • No restrictions to access FOUO level or ITAR controlled material
  • MUST be an Australian Citizen

Desirable

  • Basic proficiencies in programming preferably developing on Microsoft Platforms (e.g., Power Apps, Office, etc).
  • Must be customer focused, team oriented, accountable and results driven
  • Ability and willingness to adapt, quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing structure, process, information and/or technology
  • Ability to communicate to a variety of discipline stakeholders
  • Good presentation skills and technical writing

The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.

Where applicable, evidence of tertiary qualifications and proof of right to work will be required prior to successful appointment.
