The Honors Academic Advisor fosters student success by identifying and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. The individual in this role advises students on university policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. The Honors Advisor assists in student orientation, teaches student survey course, and participates in graduation-related work, including commencement rehearsal and lineup. This position will work with students majoring in the Biological Sciences and interested in pre-health Professions. The Advisor acquires information for students, including academic, career, financial, psychological, etc. The individual holding this position acts as a liaison to the college's lead retention advisor and helps coordinate student retention efforts across ASC Honors, serves on department/college committees as assigned; participates in professional development activities. Occasional evening and weekends required.

Provides Arts and Sciences Honors faculty and staff with additional advising-related support as needed. Completes special projects as requested/assigned by ASC Honors Director and Advising Manager.

Required Master's level degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in arts & sciences. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines and engages in discussions with stakeholders. Able to readily articulate specific information on course content, programs, and policies, including specialty areas. Able to assess a student's potential for success in a field of study and make appropriate referrals. Able to apply theory to advising practice. Demonstrates advanced communication skills; able to provide detail and depth to information conveyed. Able to tailor advising interactions to accommodate or incorporate student's personal/cultural identity. Effectively builds relationships with students and possesses adaptive relational skills. Discusses relevance of program to student's goals.

Desired: One year of relevant experience. Demonstrates and applies historical knowledge of the academic advising profession, including GE, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. The pay range for this job profile is $50,003.20 - $55,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
