Role Purpose

The Undergraduate Process Engineer supports the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of manufacturing processes within a regulated pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment. The role provides hands‑on exposure to real manufacturing systems while developing core engineering, problem‑solving, and GMP capabilities under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Process Support

  • Assist in monitoring and optimizing manufacturing processes to ensure safety, quality, and throughput
  • Support day‑to‑day troubleshooting of process and equipment issues in collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions.

Engineering & Continuous Improvement

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using data analysis, basic process modelling, and first‑principles engineering
  • Assist with preparation and review of process flow diagrams, mass balances, and technical reports.
  • Support small capital projects or process changes under supervision.

GMP & Compliance

  • Work in compliance with GMP, safety, and environmental standards at all times.
  • Assist with generation, review, and execution of controlled documentation (e.g. SOPs, change controls, risk assessments).
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and periodic reviews as required.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Utilities, and Automation teams.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Learning & Development Objectives

  • Develop practical understanding of biotech/pharma manufacturing processes
  • Build competency in structured problem‑solving and engineering decision‑making.
  • Gain experience working in a regulated GMP environment
  • Strengthen professional skills including teamwork, communication, and technical writing.

Education & Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in:
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Biochemical / Bioprocess Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering (process‑focused)
    • or a related engineering discipline
  • Strong interest in pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing.

Desirable

  • Previous industrial placement, internship, or laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with basic process engineering concepts (mass balances, thermodynamics, fluid flow).
  • Awareness of GMP or regulated industries.

  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
