Undercarriage Field Technician

Department: Machine Division (MAC)

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Kilgore

Reporting To: Douglas Osburn


This position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnosis, and repair of heavy construction equipment under carriage in a shop environment or field. This position will work alone or part of Team. This position will involve removing and installing complete undercarriage which includes tracks, rollers frames, idlers, and sprockets segments. It will also require performing repairs on broken links assemblies which include the use of a cutting torch.


Essential Functions

  • Personally models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission Statement
  • Must complete VBL, DiSC and Conflict Resolution
  • Performs basic undercarriage repairs on all brand of equipment on the customer job site.
  • Disassembles, cleans, inspects, repairs, and assembles undercarriage components.
  • Evaluates, measures, and monitors undercarriage conditions.
  • Works as a member of a team to provide services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals.
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
  • Prepares service reports and any other necessary paperwork.
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and work areas in a good, clean, and working order.
  • Performs and completes most tasks with no supervision.
  • Act as a team member on large projects.
  • Provides assistance, coaching, and mentoring to other Undercarriage Technicians.
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of heavy construction equipment undercarriage experience preferred
License Requirements;
  • Must have a Commercial Driver License Class B minimum
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL within 90 days from starting
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical and maintain a DOT Medical Card
  • Must have a safe driving records for the past 4 years.
    • No serious offenses
Additional Requirements:
  • Must own an assortment of tools and specialized tools to perform the job.

Travel:
  • Travel is required for this position with possible overnight stays.
Physical Requirements:
  • Significant amount of time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, and reaching
  • Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity.
  • Communicates with customers, service managers, and co-workers.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
  • Frequently lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 80 lb.
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment.
Work Environment:
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times.
  • Exposure to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces, awkward positions and/or high places.
  • Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings.
