UN Women Office in the Republic of North Macedonia in line with its priorities set in the UN Women strategic plan and in the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, supports the country on the normative commitments and is working in three thematic areas – governance and national planning, ending violence against women, and women’s economic empowerment. In fulfilling its mandate, UN Women is cooperating with UN, the government, CSOs and the private sector to advocate for women’s empowerment and advancement of gender equality.
UN Women Office in the country is implementing the project “Promoting Gender Responsive Policies and Budgets: Towards Transparent, Inclusive and Accountable Governance in Republic of North of Macedonia – phase 2” funded by Switzerland and the programme “Promoting Gender Responsive Governance in North Macedonia” funded by Sweden. Both initiatives are aimed towards more accountable, transparent and inclusive governance, which would improve the lives of women and girls and advance gender equality in North Macedonia.
To support the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth, as well as the State Statistical Office in the development of the Gender Equality Index, UN Women is seeking expert support to contribute to the Narrative Report for the Gender Equality Index in North Macedonia, as part of project implementation and support to the Ministry. The assignment comprises developing of a partial index or dashboard in 2026 and complete Gender Equality Index in 2027.

The main objective of the assignment is to create the narrative report for the country Gender Equality Index, based on the data provided by the SSO, as well as to develop short explanatory note/guidance for the development of the narrative report for each of the domains. In line with the EIGE methodology, the SSO has calculated the scores of the Gender Equality Index, covering six domains: knowledge, work, money, health, time, power, and two satellite domains: violence and intersecting inequalities. The report will be used to provide contextual understanding of the results of the Gender Equality Index. The assignment is requested for developing partial index or dashboard in 2026 and complete Gender Equality Index in 2027.
Working in close coordination with the MSPDY/DEO, the SSO and UN Women team and under direct supervision of the UN Women Programme Analyst, the national experts will have the following tasks and responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Analyst at the UN Women Office in the country, the National Consultants will develop and deliver the above listed deliverables, along with a timesheet, report, and other relevant materials.
All deliverables of an acceptable standard and quality should be submitted to UN Women and in languages as specified above.
This is a home-based consultancy. The assignment requires intermittent presence on UN Women premises for coordinative purposes.
As part of this assignment, there may be expected in-country travels outside the capital Skopje, for which UN Women will cover the transportation and DSA.
