Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Within UN Women, the Strategic Partnership Division (SPD) mobilizes resources and builds alliances that advance this mandate. It works with governments, the private sector, and individuals to fund UN Women’s work through philanthropy, cause-related programmes, and partnerships that align corporate social responsibility with gender equality goals.
UN Women’s Strategic Plan (2026-2029) emphasizes the private sector as a key partner in driving development results, including through the implementation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). It builds on UN Women’s Private Sector Strategy (2023-2025) that provides the strategic direction on UN Women’s engagement with the private sector. The WEPs were established in 2010 to foster gender-responsive business conduct by deepening, broadening and strengthening our engagement with the private sector in leadership, workplace, marketplace and community, and through transparency and accountability.
With a specific focus of deepening private sector action in the marketplace, the Global Supply Chain Coalition (GSCC) was established to advance gender-responsive supply chains, leveraging the collective action of WEPs signatories globally.
The Communication Consultant will report to the Head of the WEPs and GSCC Secretariats, and work closely with the WEPs and GSCC Coordinators to strengthen the communication strategies, amplify key messages, bring optimal visibility to high-profile events across the initiatives’ calendars through impactful social media content that accelerates awareness of the two initiatives.
