Job Description

STATUS:Per Diem

LOCATION:Gouverneur Hospital

DEPARTMENT:Radiology

SCHEDULE: Per Diem

Performs ultrasound procedures on patients in accordance with physician orders. Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision. The ultrasound technologist uses independent judgment to evaluate each case in order to obtain high-quality ultrasound exams.

  • Requires sufficient sensitivity and interpersonal skills to deal with apprehensive patients professionally and compassionately.

  • Requires positive and effective communication skills for interaction with physicians and staff in emotionally charged situations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the physician during those ultrasound procedures requiring the physician's presence.

  • Lifts and moves patients with assistance.

  • Labels and processes all studies correctly to assure prompt and quality medical care. Notes pertinent clinical information.

  • Operates all ultrasound equipment to obtain the highest quality diagnostic images for radiologist interpretation.

  • Communicates effectively with patients, co-workers, and physicians.

  • Assures the continued and safe operation of all equipment assigned to the ultrasound department. Notifies supervisor of any deficiencies.

  • Assures a sufficient level of supplies required for a ultrasound departmental operation.

  • Orders supplies as necessary.

  • Notifies supervisor of shortages in a timely manner.

  • Assists in the training of student ultrasound technologists. Is responsible for their actions with regards to patient care.

  • Assists in the training of staff technologists assigned in the specialty area of ultrasound.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited ultrasound program OR Graduate of a two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related, such as radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist or registered nurse with 1 year of completion of documented ultrasound clinical experience/employment. OR Graduate of a non-CAAHEP accredited ultrasound program with 1 year full-time documented ultrasound experience.

  • REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: If hired after 08/01/2025, registry with ARDMS, CCI, ARRT required; if not, must obtain within 18 months of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Sonographer with ARDMS, CCI or ARRT.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE:

$37.45 - $55.18

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
