We are a scale-up based in London, Ghent (Belgium) and Chicago rapidly expanding across Europe and the US. The platform is an ‘all-in-one system’, handling everything from initial order entry to final invoicing. It optimises planning and has a built-in AI feature that automates lengthy manual tasks. Qargo is designed to help modern logistics operations run more efficiently, while increasing profitability and sustainability.

We're looking for an UI/UX Designer (with a strong focus on UI) to join our team in Ghent. If you're looking for a role with real ownership over a design system from the ground up, this could be the perfect fit for you.

💼 About the Role

As our first dedicated UI/UX Designer, you'll be the sole designer at Qargo, working closely with our product owners, engineers, and customers to shape the visual experience of our Transport Management System.

You'll take ownership of our design system, currently a work in progress, and turn it into a robust foundation that engineering and product teams can build on with confidence, while staying close to customers to make sure every screen we ship is intuitive.

🔑 Key Responsibilities

• Own and evolve our design system: create and organise components, define patterns, and maintain consistency between our design system and front-end code.
• Redesign complex, dense pages across product domains, translating customer and product-owner requirements into consistent, user-friendly visuals.
• Partner daily with product owners and front-end/back-end engineers to design flows, prototypes, and customer-facing and internal setup screens.
• Bring consistency to existing components and internal tools that have grown complex over time.
• Engage directly with customers: join go-lives, visit customers regularly, and use that contact to inform design decisions.
• Work as the sole designer while collaborating closely with product trios, a product owner, designer, and engineer working together around a specific product domain.

✅ Skills & Experience

• Strong UI design skills: this role is focused mainly on UI, not UX.
• Proven experience creating or owning a design system: you have a strong understanding of accessible design principles with attention to clarity, consistency, hierarchy, and usability.
• Comfortable designing for dense, complex, desktop and mobile applications.
• Comfortable using Claude Code and AI tools in general to speed up design and prototyping work.
• Fluent in Figma or other design tools such as Framer. ****Familiarity with Storybook is a plus.
• Familiarity with established design systems (e.g. Ant Design, Google Material, Apple's Human Interface Guidelines) is a plus.
• High-level HTML/CSS knowledge is a plus.
• Quick to understand different product domains and take proactive ownership of design improvements.
• Comfortable with direct customer contact.
• Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.
• Around 2 years of relevant experience.
