Job Description

We are seeking a User Experience (UI/UX) Designer to lead the front-end redesign of a core web portal as part of a high-visibility modernization initiative. This role will play a critical role in the early stages of the project, driving design direction alongside an established vision board, accelerate prototyping, and enabling a newly formed development team to move with speed and clarity.

This is a fast-paced, execution-focused environment where velocity, adaptability, and a modern product mindset are essential. You will work directly with leadership to translate a high-level vision into tangible, production-ready designs, setting the foundation for a full rebuild of a legacy platform.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on designer who thrives in rapid iteration cycles, leverages AI tools to increase output and efficiency, and brings a strong balance of creativity and structure.

Contract: 3 months (strong potential for extension)
Location: Fully Remote within Costa Rica

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design Leadership & Rapid Prototyping (Primary Focus)

• Lead the UI/UX design effort for a full web portal redesign, translating high-level vision and use cases into intuitive, modern user experiences.
• Partner directly with leadership to iterate quickly on concepts and prototypes, driving alignment before development begins.
• Produce high-quality wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes at speed to enable rapid validation and feedback cycles.
• Establish design direction that enables development teams to move quickly without sacrificing usability or quality.

Modernization & Design Systems

• Create and evolve scalable design components and UI patterns in Figma to support a modernized front-end architecture.
• Introduce or refine design system practices where appropriate, balancing structure with speed and flexibility.
• Ensure designs align with modern web standards and are optimized for current frameworks and responsive patterns.

AI-Enabled Design Workflow

• Leverage AI tools to accelerate design exploration, iteration, and production output.
• Contribute ideas on how AI can be effectively integrated into both design and development workflows to improve velocity.

Accessibility & Usability

• Apply accessibility best practices (WCAG) to ensure inclusive and compliant user experiences.
• Conduct lightweight usability validation during prototyping phases to inform design decisions.

Design Delivery & Handoff

• Deliver production-ready design assets with clear specifications, annotations, and interaction details for development teams.
• Collaborate closely with an engineering team to ensure accurate and efficient implementation.

Collaboration & Influence

• Act as the bridge between product vision and execution, ensuring clarity and momentum across stakeholders.
• Provide input on overall team structure and design considerations that impact development efficiency.
• Contribute to building a high-performance, ownership-driven team culture focused on outcomes and speed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• 3–5 years of professional experience in UX/UI, product, or interaction design.
• Strong proficiency in Figma (components, auto-layout, prototyping).
• Proven ability to work in fast-paced environments with rapid iteration cycles.
• Experience designing modern web applications (preferably React-based or similar ecosystems).
• Demonstrated ability to translate high-level concepts into clear, usable designs.
• Familiarity with AI tools and a willingness to incorporate them into design workflows.
• Solid understanding of responsive design and usability best practices.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate directly with leadership and distributed teams.
• Portfolio showcasing speed, execution, and strong design thinking (not just polish).

Preferred

• Experience working on redesigns or modernization of legacy platforms.
• Exposure to design systems and scalable component libraries.
• Experience collaborating with distributed development teams.
• Familiarity with current front-end frameworks and design-to-development workflows.
• Experience in rapid prototyping environments or startup-like settings.

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
