Southern Careers Institute is seeking a highly experienced and passionate Subject Matter Expert and UI/UX Design Instructor.

The ideal candidate will possess deep, practical knowledge of user-centered design principles and a proven track record of industry success to effectively guide and mentor the next generation of designers.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

The UI/UX Design Instructor is responsible for teaching core UI/UX concepts. Candidates must demonstrate comprehensive expertise in the following areas:

Industry Experience & User-Centered Design

• Strong Industry Experience: Significant, hands-on experience in real-world UX/UI design projects, demonstrating a deep understanding of the professional design lifecycle.
• User-Centered Design: A comprehensive understanding and ability to teach human-centric approaches to software and product design, emphasizing empathy and accessibility.

Design Tools & Technical Understanding

• Design Tool Proficiency: Expertise with industry-standard design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
• Technical Understanding: A solid grasp of the basic principles of how websites and applications work (e.g., front-end basics, development workflows) to effectively frame design decisions within technical constraints.

Research Methods & Usability

• User Research and Usability Testing: Expertise in a variety of user research methods, including the ability to plan, conduct, synthesize, and present findings from usability tests, interviews, and other research activities.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in related field (Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Software Engineering, Interaction Design, Computer Science, etc.)

• 2+ years professional work experience as a UI/UX designer
• Prior teaching experience preferred
