Are you a program leader with experience in data analysis, performance reporting, or business process improvement? Our Unemployment Insurance (UI) Operations Assistant Director will, under general supervision, assist in directing the integration and administration of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program throughout the state, with primary focus on Benefits, Employer Tax Services (ETS), and Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) operations. The successful candidate will have oversight of claimant and employer customer service, fact-finding and claims adjudication, and special claims analysis, as well as employer liability determination and employer account management.

Key Responsibilities

The UI Operations Assistant Director will:

  • Oversee recruiting, hiring, and, developing of Benefits, ETS Operations, and RESEA staff.
  • Ensure the staff in all designated UI Hub centers are trained and knowledgeable of the current UI policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate activities of staff to ensure the attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Ensure UI programs administered throughout the state are consistent with Department of Labor standards, measurements, and goal requirements.
  • Provide coaching and feedback on activities and performance.
  • Ensure that communication to claimants and employers is consistent and accurate.
  • Plan, communicate, coordinate, supervise and exercise good judgment when appraising situations and making decisions.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external customers.
  • Make presentations and prepare reports.

Examples of duties

Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience of program management or project management experience, three (3) years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Knowledge of state/federal laws pertaining to DEW administered Unemployment Insurance programs. Knowledge of the agency's mission, programs, and objectives.

Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of principles, practices and objectives of management. Proven ability to manage change and motivate staff. Ability to manage and provide guidance and training to employees at multiple sites at multiple levels. Experience reading and interpreting state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to develop and implement administrative procedures and operations and to evaluate their efficiency. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, executive management, other administrative officials, and the public.
