Job Description

Main Function:

  • It is anticipated that the Fellow will show clinical growth, improved clinical confidence and increased preparedness to care for patients in all settings, by the completion of the Fellowship. Our post graduate NP/PA Fellowship will provide additional skills training, as well as independent mentorship experience in the Urgent Care and Emergency Department for the duration of 8 months. This will be an intensive clinical program which will prepare NP's and PA's to meet the needs of culturally diverse and clinically complex adult and pediatric patients that are typical of our Urgent Care Centers. Fellows will be employees of Thompson Health and will comply with all patient care policies.

Required Job Specific Competencies:

    • Thompson Education Digest, CPR, AED, CLIA waived testing.
    • The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to collect data relative to the patients’ status and age, and tailor patient care relative to age-specific needs.
    • Lives the CARES values at all times.
    • Works under the direction of preceptor, mentor, or other providers until orientation has been completed.
    • Coordinates care for multiple patients collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
    • Biweekly meetings with preceptors and department leaders to identify personalized needs
    • Provides medical care, which includes but is not limited to, evaluation and treatment of acute and episodic illness or injury.
    • Communicates with the supervising physician regarding any cases that have adverse medical conditions discovered or if diagnosis is uncertain or complex.
    • Order appropriate laboratory and/or x-ray studies as required by history and physical examination.
    • Performs procedures (IM, SUB-Q, suturing) as requested.
    • Able to prescribe medications consistent with licensure.
    • Refers patient to appropriate specialist as necessary and informs patient of referral process where required.
    • Participates in assuring customer satisfaction is maximized for all points of patient interaction.
    • Documents patient history and problem list in electronic medical record for each encounter per regulatory guidelines. Reviews patient’s medical record for completion and accuracy following each encounter.
    • Complies with all system-wide and practice specific policies and procedures.

Schedule: 0.9 FTE day and evening shifts.

Designed as a comprehensive 2 year professional development experience.

Requirements:

Required: New York State certification/registration as Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner.

Required if Nurse Practitioner: Active New York State licensure as Registered Nurse and in good standing.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she must possess the ability to access data reflective of the patient’s status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and provide the necessary medical care as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Experience in emergency medicine preferred.

Education:

Graduation from an accredited school as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.

Pay Range: $85,000.00/year
