GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Performs entry-level accounting work for the Accounting Operations Section of the Finance & Operations Division at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Work involves performing detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, or reports. Work includes data entry into agency accounting systems, which include Centralized Accounting & Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).Specializes in accounts payable processes.Works under close supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position reports to the Accounts Payable Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Classifies, codes and enters financial vendor and payment information in Centralized Accounting & Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS), and Texas Identification Number System (TINS).
Provides effective and efficient customer service in a professional manner to agency employees and managers.
Ability to interpret and articulate agency policy and procedures, specifically for payment processing.
Performs data entry for journal vouchers and revenue deposits. Receives cash, prepares deposit slips and maintains cash control records.
Prepares payment, cash, general journal, and related vouchers.
Reconciles deposit, expenditure, and leave balances; researches discrepancies; and reports findings.
Compiles and distributes accounting reports and spreadsheets pertaining to such matters as cash receipts and expenditures.
Verifies and distributes warrants for payroll and vendors in accordance to agency and state requirements.
Assists with tracking reimbursement and invoices to ensure payments are made in a timely manner.
Maintains, scans and secures files of accounting documents. Pulls documents and downloads files.
May audit vouchers, claims, invoices, requisitions, purchase orders, statements and similar records and reports.
May process travel reimbursement requests.
May travel up to 5% of the time. Travels by car. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.
Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Familiarity with accounting and financial operations. Graduation from high school or equivalent plus two (2) years' experience in general office administration or payment processing work. Six to twelve hours of college coursework in accounting is preferred. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within ninety (90) days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
