The University of Arizona is looking for qualified individuals to join C.A.T.S. Academics.


C.A.T.S. provides academic counseling, personal and career development, and learning services to support student-athletes, and seeks to hire motivated individuals looking to gain and further develop their skills in the area of academic support services.


Assistant Learning Specialists (ALS) should be prepared to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and highly collaborative environment, and will complete their time in C.A.T.S. having gained comprehensive academic support experience from multiple work perspectives, including academic counselors, learning specialists, and coordinators.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide structured support/instruction to academically at-risk student athletes and oversight for a caseload of students. Referring student athletes to campus resources and programs.
  • Assessing individual student academic needs and developing academic support plans. Monitoring academic progress and eligibility.
  • Collaborating with team members to keep records of student progress and study plans. Operating web-based performance monitoring systems (Teamworks Academics/Retain). Having knowledge and understanding of NCAA compliance rules.
  • Researching and addressing departmental and programmatic areas of need. Additional duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work between 16-19 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Required to work evenings and/or weekends, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in athletics, education, or working with high school and/or college-aged students.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
