Nevada Gold Mines is seeking a motivated Open Pit Ore Control Geologist I or II to support ore control activities at the Turquoise Ridge Mine near Winnemucca, Nevada. This role is responsible for daily ore control mapping, sampling, geological interpretation, and reconciliation activities to ensure accurate ore delineation and optimal ore recovery.
The successful candidate will work closely with mine operations, engineering, and geology teams to support safe and efficient mining while maintaining high data quality standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring proper material classification, minimizing dilution, and improving geological understanding of the ore body through data analysis and modeling support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive zero harm workplace through the responsibility to stop unsafe work and other company safety programs, while promoting a positive workplace environment.
- Map and sample active blasthole drill patterns, classify mine rock and ensure proper material routing and management.
- Map newly exposed high wall for geologic modeling interpretations and geotechnical discrepancies.
- Compile and review mapping and assay data with ore control and modeling geologists to provide quality improvements to the geologic understanding of the ore body.
- Support site reconciliation through identifying and explaining variances and providing solutions to mitigate/maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution.
- Generate daily and weekly ore control reconciliation reports.
- Geotechnical and geological logging of diamond dill core and RC chips.
- Produce geological sections and interpretations using 3D software and assist with the geologic modeling process.
- Supervise sample collection for accuracy and consistency; ensure clean and timely data entry into the geological database.
- Build and maintain collaborative internal relationships with key departments (Engineering, Operations, Process Environmental, Growth and Exploration, Safety and Finance).
- Assts with geological studies as necessary and look for ways to continuously improve ore control workflows.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Geology or related field required
- Excellent safety record required
- Ability to work within a team environment and possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required
- Experience working as an ore control or drilling geologist preferred
- Previous open pit mine operations experience preferred
- Familiarity with Vulcan, Leapfrog, Deswik, and AcQuire software preferred
