The Turnaround Event Manager is accountable for the successful planning, preparation, execution, startup, and closeout of major turnaround events. This role provides overall leadership and governance for all turnaround activities and serves as the single point of accountability for delivering turnaround objectives related to safety, quality, scope, schedule, cost, and operational readiness.

The Turnaround Event Manager ensures seamless integration of maintenance, reliability, operations, engineering, capital projects, procurement, and contractor activities throughout the turnaround lifecycle while driving compliance with Nutrien turnaround and project management standards. The role champions a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement while ensuring turnarounds deliver predictable and competitive results to the business. This role will report to the general manager at the site.

This is a 3 year temporary position

What you will do:

L ead the full turnaround lifecycle including scope development, planning, preparation, execution, startup, and closeout activities.

  • Maintain overall accountability for turnaround performance in the areas of safety, quality, scope, schedule, cost, and operational readiness.
  • Champion a zero-incident culture by embedding safety and quality as core values in all turnaround activities and ensuring compliance with Nutrien standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead risk-based scope development and optimization, ensuring maintenance, reliability, inspection, regulatory, and business requirements are incorporated and aligned with turnaround objectives.
  • Ensure seamless integration of capital projects, maintenance, and reliability work within the turnaround scope, schedule, and execution plans.
  • Oversee all shutdown, startup, decommissioning, commissioning, and turnover activities to ensure safe and efficient asset return to operations.
  • Drive development and execution of the integrated turnaround schedule, including critical path reviews and mitigation plans to achieve minimum outage duration.
  • Provide leadership and governance to turnaround, project, operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractor teams to ensure alignment of site and turnaround goals.
  • Oversee turnaround budgeting, cost forecasting, overhead allocation strategies, and resource planning to achieve approved financial targets.
  • Develop and implement contracting and procurement strategies, including contractor selection, technical bid evaluations, mobilization, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Ensure turnaround readiness through effective planning, validation of work packages, resource loading, logistics planning, staffing, equipment readiness, and gate reviews.
  • Monitor turnaround execution performance, including progress, productivity, resource utilization, schedule adherence, and management of emergent work and execution risks.
  • Establish and maintain effective stakeholder communication, providing timely updates on turnaround readiness, execution status, risks, costs, and recovery actions.
  • Ensure compliance with Nutrien turnaround and project management processes, standards, milestones, and governance requirements throughout the event lifecycle.
  • Lead turnaround closeout activities, ensuring unit cleanliness, punch-list completion, lessons learned, performance reviews, and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities for future events.

What you will bring:

  • Engineering Degree or Trades Certification with significant relative experience
  • 10-15 + years or more of supervisory experience in turnarounds, projects, and maintenance management and or field construction management areas
  • Proven leadership as a Turnaround Manager on high complexity Turnarounds is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of Capital project and MRM phased approaches to Turnaround integration
  • Strong project management skills, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
  • Good knowledge of turnaround, maintenance and reliability practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to high safety standards
  • Expert leadership, conflict resolution, and team building skills
