We are looking for a talented and motivated Tunnel Engineer in Training (Construction Support) to support an iconic construction project in Vancouver. In this position, you will work alongside our geotechnical and structural engineers on local, national and global projects.
As a Tunnel Engineer in Training (Construction Support), your responsibilities would include:
Working collaboratively with the Engineering, Contracting Authority and Contractor teams to support overall project delivery of multiple elements of this critical project, in particular reviewing submittals and requests for information, managing and coordinating Engineers inspections, monitoring excavation performance, witnessing and providing sign off at construction hold points and communicating key issues to the relevant teams.
Provide field engineering support for mechanically excavated tunnels and shafts in sedimentary rock sequences, including systematic geological mapping of shaft and tunnel faces, assessing and monitoring probe hole and pre-excavation grouting requirements, design review and field verification of rock support systems, evaluating excavation performance against expected behavior.
Document ground conditions, performance, and engineering decisions through concise technical reporting.
Acting as part of a team of professionals, assisting with the coordination of work among other engineers and design staff.
Supervising the work of more junior staff and providing technical and professional guidance to aid their development.
Preparing daily shift reports capturing HSE, progress, labour, equipment, materials, quality of the work during daily shifts.
Providing full-time on-site construction engineering support on a shift rotation including 10hr night shift, swing and day shifts on a 5 day /week basis including occasional longer shifts and weekend work.
Successful candidates will possess the below skills and qualifications, including but not limited to:
A strong academic background, with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering (a Master’s degree would be considered an asset)
Minimum 3- 5 years of relevant industry / project experience, including experience in underground construction, particularly underground shaft and tunnel excavations and geological mapping (full-time site experience would be considered an asset).).
Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in British Columbia.
Ability to obtain professional registration in upcoming years.
Knowledge and experience of the implementation or construction of design solutions on construction sites.
Experience with stability analyses / assessments, rock support design/verification, for structures in soft/hard rock.
Have good working knowledge and experience using geotechnical software, including Rocscience packages (Dips, RS2, Unwedge, RS3). Knowledge and experience using Leapfrog/Seequent, CAD and Deswik would be advantageous.
Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and clients and nurture the development of junior staff.
Ability and enthusiasm for supervising the work of others, including check and approval of key deliverables

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
The expected salary range for this position is from $84,000 - $103,000
