We are currently seeking a motivated and skilled Tug Engineer to join our team in Onslow, WA on an unrostered permanent part-time basis.

This is a permanent part-time role with no fixed roster, requiring availability throughout the year for at least 91 working days. You will receive a fortnightly salary based on a pro-rated structure, with the current full-time equivalent salary for a Tug Engineer in Onslow set at $213,677.05 per annum.

We encourage residents of the Pilbara region or nearby areas to apply! Travel reimbursement is available for journeys to and from Onslow or Karratha, and FIFO from Perth to Karratha is also an option. Accommodation is provided either onboard the tug or within onshore facilities.

How You’ll Make a Difference

Reporting to the Port Manager and the Tug Master onboard the vessel, you will be part of a three-person crew and will be responsible for operating and maintaining engines, deck machinery, and other equipment aboard.

  • Maintain operational standards of all machinery, including deck and engine
  • Conduct maintenance and repair of marine plant and equipment
  • Prepare maintenance and operational reports as required
  • Report operational defects in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and statutory obligations
  • Participate in safety, skills, and competency training
  • Assist other crew members on deck as needed
  • Undertake duty at dockings, including monitoring and supervising other personnel
  • Monitor and review relevant work health and safety standards and procedures
  • Participate in operational improvement exercises and environmental compliance

What You’ll Bring

To thrive in this position, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or higher
  • Current statements of attainment in Provide First Aid and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (HLTAID009)
  • A current AMSA Medical applicable to your Certificate of Competency
  • A valid MSIC or ‘Job Ready’ MSIC Application (or proof of ability to obtain)
  • Prior towage experience would be highly advantageous
  • The ability to work as part of a team and build excellent working relationships with external customers
  • Ability to work under pressure, particularly in emergency situations
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritise tasks
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written
  • Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • The right to live and work in Australia
