Work you will do
The Head of Project Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the financial success of Deloitte SEA’s engagements. You will be responsible for leading a team of Project Controllers and overseeing project financials for strategic engagements as defined by leadership or engagements above USD2M. Your leadership will focus on driving financial efficiency, managing project budgets, and mitigating financial risks across the region. As part of this role, you will ensure that projects are aligned with Deloitte’s strategic and financial objectives, from planning through execution and completion.
The Project Controller plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial success of Deloitte’s engagements by optimizing revenue, safeguarding financial integrity, and mitigating revenue risks. This role is integral to the financial management and operational efficiency of projects, providing comprehensive support from pursuit through execution and completion.
Project Controllers collaborate with project teams and management to ensure the financial viability of projects, focusing on several key aspects:
- Project Viability: Evaluating the project's overall commercial feasibility from a financial perspective, ensuring alignment with Deloitte’s strategic and financial objectives
- Commercially Viable Contract Terms: Reviewing and providing guidance on contract terms to ensure they are financially viable and aligned with project goals.
- Financial Structure: Establishing and maintaining a sound financial framework for projects, ensuring precise revenue recognition, effective cost management, and sustainable profitability.
- Workbench Adequacy: Ensuring the workbench accurately captures project financials, including budget allocations, planned net service revenue, and engagement profitability metrics.
Beyond these core responsibilities, Project Controllers are experts in engagement financial management, serving as focal points for:
- Financial planning, monitoring, and reporting.
- Proactive identification and mitigation of financial risks.
- Providing insights and analysis to support informed decision-making.
As trusted business partners, Project Controllers deliver financial insights, innovative solutions, and strong financial controls to optimize project outcomes. Close collaboration with Client Engagement Leaders and other stakeholders is essential to drive profitability, ensure financial discipline, and achieve engagement excellence across Deloitte’s portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
- Team Leadership: Lead a group of Project Controllers, setting clear objectives and ensuring high standards of financial governance and performance.
- Optimum Performance: Lead from the front, acting as an exemplary role model of integrity for leaders at all levels; promote a strong sense of loyalty and followership as well as to energise others to perform at the highest level.
- Project Viability: Evaluate and ensure the financial feasibility of projects, aligning them with Deloitte’s strategic goals and profitability targets.
- Project Financial Management: Oversee financial planning, reporting, and monitoring for strategic engagements as determined by leadership or engagements with values USD2M and above
- Financial Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring the health of each project’s financial performance
- Revenue Optimization: Ensure accurate revenue recognition, billing, and collection processes to prevent revenue leakage and optimize cash flow.
- Budget and Forecasting: Collaborate with engagement teams to develop project cost estimates, budgets, forecasts, and business cases, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives.
- Workbench Adequacy: Maintain the integrity of the workbench, ensuring accurate financial data and metrics are captured throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Client Engagement Leaders to assess the financial viability of new projects and advise on contract terms to ensure they are commercially sound.
- Reporting and Insights: Prepare and present financial analyses and actionable insights to senior leadership and key stakeholders, guiding informed decision-making.
- WIP and AR Management: Track and manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) to ensure accurate billing and timely revenue recognition.
- Team Development: Foster a high-performance culture within the Project Controller team, providing mentorship and development opportunities to build a strong pipeline of talent.

Requirements
If you are someone with:
Qualifications, Work Experience & Technical Prerequisites
- A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. An MBA or professional qualifications (e.g., CPA, CMA, PMI) are a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in project finance, controlling, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management tools such as SAP and Power BI.
- Experience managing large-scale projects with a proven track record of optimizing financial performance and mitigating risks.
- A strong understanding of revenue recognition principles and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in English.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and financial discipline.
