HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
This position has the option to participate in a modified work week schedule (37.5 hours/week) Monday to Friday, with the extra hours worked as one earned day off taken once every three-week scheduled cycle.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Manager, Truth and Reconciliation (T&R) and the Manager, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), the Specialist leads in the development and delivery of assigned T&R and EDI programs, policies, projects, practices, learning initiatives and organizational change activities. As a subject matter expert, facilitator and change practitioner, the Specialist works across LABC and with external partners to advance T&R and EDI priorities. They help build organizational capacity, address systemic and structural barriers and support the creation of more inclusive workplaces and services. The Specialist also provides subject matter expertise and implementation support to employee resource groups, including the EDI Council, Accessibility Committee, and related working groups.
Through engagement, facilitation, learning, advice, and change management, the Specialist builds organizational awareness, understanding, capability, and commitment and supports the adoption of equitable, inclusive, accessible, culturally safe, anti-racist, and decolonizing practices. The Specialist leads assigned work and contributes expertise and implementation support to related initiatives led by other T&R and EDI team members or LABC departments.
The following job duties are illustrative examples and shall not be construed as an exhaustive description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.
a. Lead assigned components of T&R and EDI departmental plans and related programs, projects, policies, processes, learning initiatives, and organizational change activities to achieve approved objectives, deliverables, and implementation outcomes.
b. Develop and implement project and change management approaches for assigned work, including identifying resource requirements, timelines, risks, dependencies, constraints, external service and budget needs; coordinating cross-functional contributions and engagement; monitoring progress; and escalating matters requiring management direction or decision.
c. Identify implementation barriers, unintended effects, and emerging concerns within assigned work, and recommend practical mitigation and improvement measures.
d. Develop practical tools, documentation, accountabilities, and transition supports that help embed approved T&R and EDI improvements into ongoing departmental practices and operations.
e. Collaborate with the T&R and EDI Research and Program Evaluation Analyst by contributing subject matter expertise, implementation and operational insights, initiative context, and perspectives gathered through engagement to inform research products, evaluations, performance measures, reporting approaches, recommendations, and continuous improvement.
f. Provide T&R and EDI subject matter expertise, implementation insights, and operational advice to inform the Managers’ contributions to organizational and service planning, policy, and budget processes.
g. Draft assigned T&R and EDI communications and provide subject matter expertise, content advice, and implementation context to support communications developed in collaboration with Strategic Communications and other accountable departments.
a. In collaboration with the Supervisor, T&R, and other accountable departments, design, facilitate, and continuously improve assigned learning initiatives, practical guidance, employee competencies, and organizational resources that build employee and leadership capability in T&R and EDI.
b. Design and facilitate inclusive, accessible, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed engagement and consultation processes for assigned work; identify relevant rights holders, organizational partners, participants, and perspectives; document themes and commitments; and support transparent follow-through.
c. Provide subject matter expertise, facilitation, and implementation support to designated employee resource groups, committees, and working groups, including the EDI Council and Accessibility Committee, to support their mandates, approved goals, and alignment with their terms of reference.
d. Lead or support the development, T&R- and EDI-informed review, consultation, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of assigned policies, guidelines, processes, practices, tools, and resources, in collaboration with departments holding operational, legal, or policy accountability.
e. Apply intersectional T&R and EDI, accessibility, human rights, cultural safety, and trauma-informed considerations throughout assigned programs, projects, policies, practices, learning activities, and engagement processes.
f. Develop and maintain respectful, reciprocal, and productive relationships with internal and external organizational partners, Indigenous rights holders and organizations, equity-denied communities, subject matter experts, and sector contacts, as relevant to assigned work.
g. Maintain current knowledge of legislation, public policy, professional practice, implementation and change approaches, and sector developments relevant to assigned T&R and EDI work, and apply this knowledge in providing advice and carrying out assigned initiatives.

Our mission at Atira Women's Resource Society is twofold: to provide direct services to women and children fleeing violence, and to raise awareness of all forms of gendered violence through education and advocacy.
Since 1983, Atira has offered safe and supportive housing to women and children impacted by violence, as well as a range of services in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, Burnaby, Surrey, White Rock, and Richmond.
These services include: long-term and transitional housing, shelter programs, housing outreach and homelessness prevention programs, outreach to senior women and First Nations, Metis and Inuit women affected by violence, support for parents and children who witness abuse, legal support, Stopping the Violence counseling, the 16-step program, and self-employment initiatives.
Our programs are accessible to anyone who identifies and lives full time as a woman and who experiences gendered violence and misogyny, including trans, two spirit and intersex women and or those who identify with a femme of centre non-binary gender.
Critical to the development of our programs and services, Atira's work is informed by the understanding that women's experience of violence often intersects with poverty, racism, substance use, and lack of support for mothering.
