Job Description

An Asset Manager on J.P. Morgan’s Closely Held Asset Management team (“CHAM”) provides asset management services for privately owned businesses (corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies) that are held within trusts and estates at J.P. Morgan. Each Asset Manager is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of approximately 75 – 120 closely held assets, depending on complexity.

Responsibilities include conducting asset reviews (including financial analysis and valuation) and evaluating, responding and approving key corporate actions (e.g., purchase and sale transactions) and other asset-related issues that may arise. Asset Managers participate in conference calls with executive management and advisors of the closely held companies in the Asset Manager’s portfolio, and interface with clients, trust beneficiaries and internal JPMorgan partners. You will be a senior asset manager having advanced subject matter knowledge and expertise in the management of specialty assets, and/or relevant experience in trusts & estates or business valuation. You must posses the ability to work independently, lead complex initiatives, provide guidance to less senior asset managers, and may have additional approval authority as assigned by the CHAM Regional Director or Team Lead.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct due diligence on clients’ closely held business interests in support of the new business acceptance process
  • Complete annual asset review and market value estimates, including completing company due diligence, management discussions, analyzing financial and operating performance, and determining marketability and holding recommendations in order to assess and manage risk and as a part of a comprehensive service for clients and beneficiaries
  • Analyze financial reporting, business organizational documents, and complex legal documents
  • Review key corporate actions, including shareholder votes/meetings, responding to proxy requests, and purchase andsale transactions
  • Work with CHAM Regional Directors to address any company-specific issues that may arise
  • Evaluate corporate governance frameworks and other key shareholder issues
  • Day-to-day asset administration (tax and regulatory filings, organizing shareholder meetings, site visits, insurance, etc.)
  • Participate in and help produce CHAM-specific training (valuation, asset management best practices, etc.)
  • Work with CHAM Regional Directors and the CHAM Team Lead on various internal operational initiatives
  • Develop external marketing materials and client pitches for new business opportunities
    Strategically consult with and develop business relationships with peers, colleagues, management, external parties(company management, CPAs, attorneys, business valuation professionals, etc) to achieve deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with banking regulations, policies, procedures, and J.P. Morgan standards
  • Communicate analysis, recommendations, and decisions to internal and external stakeholders, professionals, and clients

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or other related field
  • Advanced degrees and credentials are a plus (JD, MBA, CFA, ASA, CPA, CTFA, etc)
  • 5+ years of closely held asset management experience preferred or equivalent experience obtained through related finance, accounting, business valuation, or trusts & estates experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of finance, business valuation, and/or trusts & estates
  • Detail oriented, with excellent organizational skills and strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, team environment
  • Willingness to research and understand unfamiliar topics and concepts such business, legal, and tax issues, and manage administrative and operational tasks as required
  • Ability to confidently prepare and present to internal and external stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Some travel may be required (less than 25%)
