Pay Starting at $20.16 - $22.35 an hour, depending on experience

Schedule Monday - Friday 7:00am to 5:30pm or working until all tasks for the day have been completed

Location: Vancouver, Washington

The Truss Sawyer is responsible for making sure all boards are cut to the right angle, length, are damage-free, and labeled correctly for the truss builders. The other main task for this position is to perform the daily preventative maintenance and cleaning of the saw.

The Truss Sawyer reports directly to the Plant manager and/or the production manager. The Sawyer works closely with Pullers and Catchers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required
  • Ability to learn to identify different grades and sizes of lumber
  • Ability to read and interpret cut sheets as well as the lumber pullers pick sheets
  • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment
  • Ability to accurately read and use both a measuring tape and a framer's square
  • Shoes that are puncture resistant, slip resistant, and made of leather or composite material required

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Verify daily production schedule with Production Manager/Lead
    • Ensures all material is cut accurately and efficiently for all scheduled jobs
    • Checks to make sure the saw print markings are accurate and any labelling done by hand are both accurate and legible
    • Maintain high level of accuracy with saw cutting (1/16-inch tolerance)
    • Actively participate in scheduled team meetings
    • Meet daily/monthly production metrics
      • Maintain BFMH expectation, Uptime, etc.
    • Maintain equipment
      • manage daily/weekly/monthly maintenance checklist
      • making sure the saw is properly lubricated using grease and a kerosene mix where needed
      • making sure all the necessary lubricant is stocked and notifying the production manager when stock starts to get low.
    • Change saw blades weekly or as appropriate
    • Safely operate all equipment
    • Always utilize all proper Personal Protective Equipment (shoes, gloves, glasses, hearing protection, no loose clothes/hair/jewelry, etc.) and ensure other members of saw team adhere to the same safety standards
    • Perform daily safety audit of saws and other equipment and promptly report any malfunctioning equipment back to management
    • Do routine saw maintenance and daily cleaning
    • Manages lumber Catchers and Pullers to maintain productivity
    • Ensures that lumber Catchers are reading the measuring tape accurately
    • Recuts any chords that are outside of tolerated length variances
    • Maintain yard and area cleanliness during course of work
    • Spot checks web and chord angles and resets the angle card if variance is too large
    • Utilize proper shutdown and maintenance procedures
    • Set example and ensure accountability of saw team. Be a leader of the area and help motivate pickers and catchers to continue their career progression
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

This position works in warehouse conditions. The working days are Monday-Friday with some Saturdays as needed. The working hours typically fall between the hours of 7am and 5:30pm. Hours and schedule may change based on workload and season.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a warehouse environment in all weather conditions
  • Ability to stoop, bend, walk and effectively communicate
