The Truck Welder reports to the Fleet Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor. The Truck Welder is personally responsible for truck and body welding repairs, fabrication of new and/or replacement parts for dump trucks, trailers and truck work bodies.

  • Operate manual and automated welding equipment to repair vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to fabricate parts and/or components relative to need or availability.
  • Performs safety inspections and checks on vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be able in flat and vertical planes (all position welding), examines for successful welds for depth and penetration (i.e. bead size and other specifications).
  • Completes required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles and equipment; to include documentation of parts usage, and repair times.
  • Attendance and successful accomplishment of all safety and compliance training.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Trade School Certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in welding: MIG, Arc Welding and fabrication.
  • Familiar with DOT CHP repair processes and controls for Drivers Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Ability to effectively communicate Truck Welder issues and required repairs.
  • Perform all tasks safely and in accordance with applicable OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Consistently behaves in a manner that is appropriate and professional.
  • Ability to read and comprehend service and technical information.
  • Valid Class C Driver's License.
  • Acceptable Driver's Record.
  • Must possess personal tools.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English / Spanish.
  • Welder Certification.
  • CDL Class A / B with air brake endorsement.
  • Heavy equipment operation experience.

  • Physical:
    • Seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously.
    • Problem solving, standing, oral communication, analytical ability, Handling (holding), organization, concentration, Eye/hand coordination, working with interruptions & interpersonal abilities continuously.
    • Sitting, written communication, balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling & walking frequently.
    • Pushing & reaching occasionally.
  • Environmental:
    • Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, noise, grease, oil, hot/cold temperatures, standing on concrete & vibration continuously.
    • Exposure to electrical hazards, chemicals, and uneven or slippery surfaces frequently.
    • Works inside & outside.

Schedule: Monday - Friday from 4:00 pm - 12:30 am with rotating Saturdays

Salary: $36.02- $37.40 per hour plus 2nd shift hours -$1.50 shift differential
