Job Description

The Role

Reporting to the Farm Manager or Field Services Team Leader, this is primarily a heavy vehicle driving role operating locally within the Bowen and Home Hill area. You will be responsible for the safe, legal, and efficient transport of perishable produce and inputs between local farm and packing sites, with full Chain of Responsibility compliance.

When not on road duties, you will contribute to farm operations — operating tractors and machinery as part of a small team growing green beans and sweet corn. If you hold both a heavy vehicle licence and tractor experience, this role offers genuine variety across a full season without the demands of long-haul driving.

You will need to be reliable and flexible, with the capacity to work extended hours at short notice, including weekends, in line with the demands of a fresh produce operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate HR/HC trucks safely and legally in accordance with all Chain of Responsibility obligations
  • Transport perishable produce and inputs between local farm and packing sites within the Bowen and Home Hill area
  • Conduct vehicle pre-start checks and report faults promptly to minimise downtime
  • Adhere to fatigue management guidelines and communicate any likely issues to your supervisor in advance
  • Perform minor mechanical repairs and maintain vehicles and equipment to within operational specifications
  • Operate tractors and farm machinery, with a focus on inter-row cultivation and spray operations
  • Apply chemicals and fertilisers in accordance with label requirements and workplace safety standards
  • Carry out row-crop duties as required — ground preparation, crop tending, tape pulling and rolling, and irrigation
  • Participate in toolbox talks, training sessions, and safety reporting requirements
  • Any other duties as directed by your Team Leader or Farm Manager

What You Will Bring

Essential

  • Current HR Open Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated experience driving trucks in a road transport environment
  • Experience transporting perishable goods
  • Practical approach to vehicle maintenance and minor mechanical repairs
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends at short notice

Highly regarded

  • Chain of Responsibility (CoR) accreditation
  • Mass Management experience
  • Tractor experience, particularly inter-row work and spray operations
  • Chemical Application Certificate (ChemCert or equivalent)

Why Mulgowie

This role suits someone who wants the structure and licence requirements of a heavy vehicle position without the time away from home that long-haul driving demands. You will be home every day, operating within a familiar local area, as part of a stable and well-established farming operation.

We are a long-established employer that values practical expertise, clear communication, and a strong safety culture. If you take pride in doing the job properly, you will fit in well here.
