Job Description

SHIFT HOURS:

Monday - Friday

8 am - 5 pm

*On-call hours required*

Effectively provide day-to-day supervision of the Truck Shop department in coordination with the Live Haul Manager. Ensure that all work orders are completed timely and efficiently. Ensure that all vehicles in operation comply with DOT regulations as it pertains to maintaining and inspecting vehicles. This team consists of four employees including: 3 mechanics and 1 cage repair person.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Manage all employees and equipment involved with the truck shop

  • Assign, complete, and inspect all work orders

  • Be fair and consistent with all employees in performing their jobs

  • Utilize D7i to order and maintain parts inventory

  • Utilize D7i to track equipment units (trucks, trailers, loaders)

  • Complete a daily roster report to track employee attendance.

Manage employee performance and any related problems using the Company’s Progressive Discipline Policy.

Ensure all vehicles and equipment are in good and safe working condition.

  • Ensure that inspections are completed timely and are in compliance with DOT regulations.

  • Constant monitoring of the equipment and maintenance schedules.

  • Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook and D7i.

  • Must be able to read and write in English.

SUPERVISORY ROLE
• This role is a Leader of People role with required competencies: Sizing up People, Delegation, Planning, Customer Focus and Conflict Management


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare trucks and make certain equipment is ready to move / operate

  • Account for all employees and make certain they arrive to work when scheduled

  • Complete paperwork and file reports when jobs are finished

  • Monitor the mechanics and the shop work that is ongoing D7i input

  • Inspect work as required

  • Manage employee performance and any related problems using the Company’s Progressive Discipline Policy

  • Must have the ability to assess situations and make a decision for a plan of action accordingly. At times decisions may need to be made under pressure.

  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of employees- verbal and written

Minimum Skill Levels and Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in truck shop operations

  • Demonstrated vehicle maintenance skills

  • Demonstrated decision making skills

  • Ability to read and respond to emails

  • Ability to use D7i efficiently

  • CDL License and acceptable driving record


PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION

  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts or more as required

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Be on call 24 hours / 7 days a week.

  • Capable of getting into and out of trucks and loaders

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to respond quickly in times of breakdowns

  • Able to read weather situations as they may dictate a necessary change in scheduling equipment (i.e. icy conditions where chains may be needed on trucks or loaders).


Preferred Skill Levels and Work Experience

  • Degree or Certificate from Technical College in related field

  • Minimum of 5 Years of Experience truck shop experience

  • Solid Computer Skills- experience with Outlook, Excel, PPT, Word, D7i a plus

  • Previous Truck Shop Management experience
