Maintaining diesel trucks, and gasoline vehicles by completing inspections doing preventative maintenance while correcting vehicle deficiencies. Plan work procedure after finding extent of damage, perform major and minor brake adjustments. Have the ability to repair or replace parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings. Repair or replace generators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Knowledge in installing accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers. Be able to attach test instruments to equipment, read dials and gauges. Verify performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems. Might have to replace drive shafts, U joints, water pumps, power steering pumps, steering sectors and work on air conditioning. Have to complete work orders and records of service and repairs.
Obey all safety rules and keep work area clean.
Qualifications
The mechanic has to work with others to maintain a fleet of company vehicles including cars, service and farm trucks,
as well as tractor trailers. By having an assortment of vehicles on the road at one time, there is plenty of work in any one week. Being mechanically minded inspect, observe and have the ability to troubleshoot and repair trucks. Candidate has to provide their own transportation and have own tools.
