
The Gate Attendant Lead supports safe, secure, and efficient access-control operations at the Tyson Berry Street facility. In addition to performing gate attendant duties, this position provides day-to-day guidance to assigned Gate Attendants and Scale House Operators, coordinates shift activities and coverage, reinforces standard procedures, and serves as the first point of escalation for routine operational concerns. The Lead monitors the movement of Team Members, visitors, vendors, contractors, truck drivers, vehicles, trailers, and materials entering or leaving the facility and supports Scale House operations. Responsibilities include capturing and recording truck and trailer weights, entering load and manifest information, printing and maintaining weigh tickets, conducting lot checks, communicating lot changes, and reporting equipment, maintenance, safety, or operational concerns. The Lead maintains accurate records, communicates with plant management and external partners, and helps ensure compliance with company safety, security, access-control, and Scale House requirements. This position escalates disciplinary, staffing, safety, security, emergency, and significant operational matters to the appropriate supervisor or manager when necessary.
Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: At least 6 months of gate attendant, security, access-control, or related experience preferred. Previous lead, trainer, or shift-coordination experience is preferred.
Computer and Equipment Skills: Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn and accurately operate access-control, visitor-management, communication, recordkeeping, and Scale House systems and associated equipment. Must be able to enter data accurately, capture vehicle and trailer weights, and print and maintain weigh tickets and related operational records.
Communication and Leadership Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to provide clear direction, coach others respectfully, manage multiple priorities, resolve routine concerns, remain calm and professional during stressful situations, and communicate effectively by radio and telephone with drivers, plant supervision, USDA, transportation partners, and other departments.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in guard shack and Scale House environments and may require periodic outdoor activity in hot, cold, wet, or changing weather conditions. The position requires sustained attention in a high-traffic environment, frequent use of phones, radios, computers, and Scale House equipment, and the ability to safely complete assigned lot checks and inspections.
Position-Specific Requirements: Must maintain dependable attendance and punctuality; demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, integrity, and a positive work ethic; follow all company safety, security, confidentiality, and conduct requirements; complete required in-house training; and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Schedule: This position is responsible for leading Gate Attendant and Scale House operations across B Shift and D Shift, which provide facility coverage from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Saturday. The Lead may rotate between Gate Attendant and Scale House assignments to support absences, breaks, emergencies, or operational needs and will be required to remain available for on-call response to issues affecting the assigned shifts.
