Job Description

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A TRUCK DRIVER

As a Truck Driver, you play a vital role in supporting our mission of providing employment-related services to the community by participating in all areas of the department’s daily operations. Every day is a little something different and offers both variety and routine! You will get training and experience in assessing, sorting, and handling used goods, providing exceptional customer service, loading/unloading cargo with specialized equipment, and transporting used goods between retail stores, outlets, donation centers, and the Cherrybell hub. The best part…no over-the-road (OTR)…you get to be home every night!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A TRUCK DRIVER

The successful candidate must have one (1) year of related driving experience, ability to drive a two-ton truck, properly secure and distribute cargo, operate a forklift, and use lift gates and hand trucks. This person should have general knowledge of Southern Arizona, especially the Tucson metro area, ability to use GPS, understand and adhere to all traffic signs and have basic mechanical knowledge. Truck Drivers must be at least 21 years old, able to pass the DOT physical and drug screen, and have a valid Arizona driver license with an acceptable driving record. Experience in used goods is a plus! This person will also be dependable to work anytime within our operating hours (Department hours are 7 days a week, 9:00AM - 5:30PM).

The position requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours), bend, stoop, lift, push and pull a minimum of 50 pounds, reach overhead, operate manual equipment such as pallet jacks and hand-trucks to move product throughout the warehouse areas. The position also involves working in all weather conditions, with moderate noise levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Know and demonstrate company values at all times.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers at all times.
  • Drive a two-ton truck and a truck/trailer; operate lift gates, hand trucks, and forklifts.
  • Transport used goods to and from Donation Centers, Retail Stores, and the Cherrybell hub throughout Southern Arizona, as instructed.
  • Perform daily maintenance of trucks, including inspections, cleaning, refilling fluids, etc.
  • Complete daily paperwork, including routing sheets and pre-trip inspection sheets, accurately and timely.
  • Maintain communication with the Transportation Department throughout the day and be available when contacted.
  • Adhere to routing guidelines and expectations at all times.
  • Understand and perform all Kaizen processes accurately and timely.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the Management Team in the process of carrying out the mission of Goodwill Industries.
  • In order to promote customer and donor satisfaction it is mandatory for employees who come in contact with the public to maintain a positive work outlook and to project a pleasant, courteous, and helpful demeanor at all times when dealing with customers, donors, co-workers, and clients.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Display work habits of regular attendance, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability, and promptness.
  • Actively promotes safety and loss prevention policies and reports issues immediately.
  • Respond to incoming calls and requests with a positive demeanor.
  • Attends and participates in monthly meetings, as required.

*Necessary to be able to travel between locations, as needed.
