Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safely and efficiently operate a Class A CDL commercial truck to transport steel materials.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while driving on public roads.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck, ensuring that all mechanical and safety components are in proper working order.
- Follow designated routes and schedules to ensure timely delivery of steel products to customers.
- Operate a tractor trailer truck, within established safety guidelines and policies, to transport product to and from specific locations.
- Represent Samuel, Son & Co. professionally with all customers.
- Maintain vehicle by conducting operator inspections, reporting vehicle problems, and delivering vehicle for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents or delays encountered during transportation.
- Prepare and maintain logs and records in accordance with D.O.T. regulations and company procedures.
- Assist with loading and unloading steel materials using forklifts, cranes, and other equipment as needed.
- Operate equipment safely and effectively – including certification for forklifts and overhead cranes, as well as general training for side loaders, miscellaneous electric, pneumatic, and manual hand tools.
- Secure steel products using appropriate strapping, chains, and other methods to prevent damage during transit.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and team members to coordinate delivery schedules and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the handling of hazardous materials, if applicable.
- Always maintain a clean working environment.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid CDL with appropriate weight classification.
- 2 years of verifiable Tractor Trailer Experience preferred.
- 1 year flatbed and steel experience preferred. (Training will be provided to ideal candidates)
- Knowledge of all applicable DOT Regulations and Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
- Able to pass pre-employment DOT physical and background check.
- Strong customer service skills and a professional attitude.
- Acceptable MVR Report Abstracts. No more than 2 moving violations within the past 36 months.
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledgeable and experienced in Load Securement (strapping, chaining, tarping) an asset.
- Proficient in the operation of Class A CDL commercial trucks.
- Basic knowledge of forklifts, cranes, and other equipment used in loading and unloading steel products.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks, including bending, stooping, and climbing in and out of the truck.
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, and dust.

- Primarily outdoor work environment, involving regular travel and transportation of steel materials.
