Job Description

Job Title: Truck Assembler Technician – IMT Mechanic Trucks
Location: Sacramento, CA
Company: Interstate Assembly Systems

Pay Range: $22–$28/hour (DOE)

Truck Assembler Technicians are responsible for assembling, modifying, and upfitting heavy-duty trucks to meet customer and operational requirements. This role involves mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic work while ensuring all builds meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards in a manufacturing or shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assembly: Install and assemble major truck components, including cranes, axles, and chassis accessories (toolboxes, chock holders, cone holders, etc.) using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
  • Upfitting: Customize trucks with specialized equipment such as PTOs, hydraulic systems, toolboxes, and custom bodies (dump beds, flatbeds) according to blueprints, schematics, and customer specifications.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed work to ensure functionality, safety, and compliance with manufacturer and regulatory standards, including DOT requirements.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues during assembly and upfitting.
  • Documentation: Accurately record parts used, labor hours, and modifications completed.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE use and OSHA guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, designers, and team members to complete complex builds efficiently.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in automotive or heavy-equipment assembly, mechanics, or a related field preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with hand and power tools; able to read blueprints, technical drawings, and electrical schematics.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of heavy-duty vehicle systems, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Physical Ability: Capable of lifting 50–75 lbs and performing extended standing, bending, kneeling, and other physical tasks.
  • Certifications: Welding, CDL, or ASE certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to precision and quality workmanship.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to use diagnostic computers for troubleshooting and repair
  • Must supply own basic hand tools
  • Comfortable using computers for web-based training and work-order systems
  • Must be physically able to perform job duties without restrictions
