Job Description

Position Title: TRIO Upward Bound Bridge Student Teaching Assistant
Department: TRIO Upward Bound.
Classification: Exempt.
Length of Position: June 15, 2026 - July 24, 2026.
Work Location: On campus.
Hourly Rate: $13.

Upward Bound hosts approximately 25 recent high school graduates on campus each summer for an annual six-week academic residential summer program. Students live in a residence hall from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, returning home every weekend. Bridge assistants attend the Bridge course with UB students and assist the Bridge Coordinator and St. Olaf faculty in delivering course materials and supporting understanding. Assist staff and co-teach supplemental courses to support the UB Summer Bridge program, and coordinate and facilitate weekly study hall sessions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Bridge Coordinator and St. Olaf faculty member
  • Assist with curriculum development
  • Assist with instruction and teaching in assigned curriculum areas
  • Correct, give feedback, and evaluate student work, when appropriate
  • Play active role in Bridge programming (supplemental instruction, study hall, course)
  • Maintain a safe and healthy residential experience and environment
  • Maintain a safe and healthy day-programming experience.
  • Participate in recreational and extracurricular activities, when appropriate
  • Ensure students/staff are following all St. Olaf and UB rules and guidelines
  • Attend staff meetings and complete other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in college or recent grad
  • Ability to establish good rapport with students and UB staff
    Experience with and ability to relate with others (high school students)
  • Sensitive to target student population and committed to program objectives and goals
  • Strong background in subject areas
  • Excellent study habits and tutoring experience

Prerequisites:

  • Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College.
