Job Description

The Tribal Community Engagement Coordinator serves as Axiom Care's primary liaison to the Navajo Nation and other Tribal communities throughout Cibola, McKinley, San Juan, and Sandoval Counties in New Mexico. This position is responsible for building and strengthening government-to-government and community partnerships, facilitating meaningful collaboration, and ensuring Axiom Care's programs and services are culturally responsive and aligned with the priorities, strengths, and needs of Tribal communities. The Tribal Community Engagement Coordinator works closely with Tribal leadership, healthcare providers, behavioral health organizations, educational institutions, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to improve access to healthcare, behavioral health, prevention, recovery support, and other essential services while honoring Tribal sovereignty, cultural values, and community-driven solutions.

Full-time Exempt

9:00 am to 5:00 pm Days and some evenings/weekends as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities

· Planning and implementing events to build awareness of Axiom Care programs in tribal communities.

· Establish, develop, and maintain collaborative partnerships with Tribal Nations, healthcare providers, behavioral health agencies, local governments, schools, community-based organizations, first responders, faith-based organizations, and other regional stakeholders.

· Maintain consistent, professional, and positive communication with community partners, referral sources, and stakeholders.

· Provide ongoing follow-up with existing and prospective partners to strengthen engagement, collaboration, and long-term relationships.

· Maintain regular communication with program leadership by providing timely updates regarding outreach activities, partnership development, community concerns, emerging opportunities, and project progress.

Founded in 2012, Axiom Care is a Phoenix-based behavioral health organization that aims to ensure every Arizonan has access to compassionate, effective substance use treatment. With facilities in Maricopa and Pinal Counties, we offer comprehensive services including 24/7 observation, inpatient detoxification, residential treatment, outpatient treatment, and recovery housing with a focus on underserved populations.

Requirements

Qualifications

· Demonstrated knowledge of Diné culture, traditions, values, governance, and Tribal sovereignty, with lived experience or significant professional experience working with Navajo communities strongly preferred.

· Understanding of the behavioral health, healthcare access, substance use disorder, prevention, maternal and child health, and social determinants of health challenges affecting Tribal and rural communities throughout Northwestern New Mexico.

· Experience building collaborative relationships with Tribal governments, Indian Health Service (IHS), 638 Tribal Health Programs, Native-led organizations, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and community partners.

· Knowledge of government-to-government collaboration and culturally responsive engagement practices when working with Tribal Nations.

· Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, public speaking, networking, and relationship-building skills.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including Tribal leadership, community members, healthcare professionals, and funding partners.

· Experience coordinating community outreach, stakeholder engagement, coalition building, public education, or community-based initiatives.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, CRM platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), databases, and virtual meeting technologies.

· Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate documentation, analyze data, and prepare reports.

· Ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication with the Director of Strategic Programs and other organizational leadership.

· Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and the ability to travel frequently throughout Cibola, McKinley, San Juan, and Sandoval Counties, including rural and Tribal communities.

· Residence within or near the Navajo Nation in New Mexico is strongly preferred.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, to accommodate community meetings, Tribal events, trainings, and stakeholder engagement activities.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in community health, behavioral health, or social services.
• 3–5+ years of professional experience in tribal health, outreach, or community-based recovery systems.
• Valid driver license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Travel extensively throughout the Region 1 service area, including rural and Tribal communities, to support Regional Hub activities.
