We are currently seeking an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to assist with a variety of tasks which may include preparing drawings, design calculations, feasibility assessments and risk identification, report writing, field work, coordination of tasks, and meeting attendance. The Junior EIT would also assist with preparation of proposal documents and cost estimates and project management tasks in accordance with CCI Inc.’s codes, standards, and procedures.
The successful candidate will support the trenchless department, working with and supporting engineers and drafters in the execution of projects. This is an EIT role, and the incumbent will work under the supervision of a P.Eng.
Accountabilities:
- Assist with the planning, design, and delivery of trenchless engineering projects, including HDD, direct pipe, microtunneling, auger boring, and other trenchless construction methods.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical reports, specifications, and design packages under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Complete engineering calculations related to crossing design, pipe stress analysis, and other trenchless design requirements.
- Support evaluations of trenchless crossing feasibility and constructability.
- Assist in the preparation of permit applications, construction documents, and regulatory submissions.
- Participate in project meetings and site visits; assist with meeting minutes, action-item tracking, and project coordination activities.
- Support project managers with scheduling, budgeting, progress tracking, and project documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals, work plans, cost estimates, and project execution strategies.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies as required.
- Contribute to the development of trenchless engineering standards, best practices, and lessons learned documentation.
- Maintain awareness of industry standards, emerging trenchless technologies, and applicable regulations.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical, environmental, and pipeline engineers.
- Support health, safety, and environmental initiatives and comply with all company and client safety requirements.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Engineering from an accredited university (Civil, Geotechnical, or Mechanical preferred).
- Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) with APEGA or another Canadian provincial engineering association.
- 0-3 years of relevant engineering experience; experience in trenchless, pipeline, utility, or geotechnical projects is considered an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and effectively communicate with clients, contractors, and project team members.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D or Google Earth is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate technical information and develop practical solutions.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Willingness to travel periodically for site visits, construction support, and client meetings.

Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with periodic travel to project sites, client offices, and construction locations.
- Occasional fieldwork may be required in varying weather and site conditions.
- Some travel within Canada and the United States may be required depending on project needs.
