Summary
Moon Valley Nurseries is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tree Care Services Specialist to perform both field leadership and customer-facing tree care services. This dual-role position is responsible for leading stump grinding operations while also providing professional tree care consultations, pruning, and maintenance services to residential customers. The ideal candidate has hands-on arboriculture experience, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage stump grinding crews, ensuring daily job readiness and proper equipment selection.
- Review daily job schedules and confirm routing and check-ins using Samsara.
- Ensure all trucks are clean, properly stocked, and compliant with safety standards.
- Safely transport crew members to and from job sites.
- Apply all OSHA, DOT, and company safety requirements; ensure crew compliance with PPE standards.
- Prepare grinding areas using proper safety shields and procedures.
- Perform stump grinding and related maintenance duties as needed.
- Conduct job walk-throughs with customers before and after work completion.
- Take and upload before-and-after job photos in Samsara.
- Conduct in-home tree inspections to assess health, structure, drainage, and safety.
- Perform light pruning and shaping through climbing and ground-based techniques.
- Identify signs of disease, pests, nutritional deficiencies, or structural issues.
- Recommend watering schedules, fertilization, treatments, and long-term tree care solutions.
- Inspect and adjust tree staking, trunk caliper, and canopy structure.
- Wrap or paint tree trunks as needed for protection.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to customers during on-site consultations.
- Recommend and close on Moon Valley Nurseries products and services when appropriate.
- Maintain detailed customer notes and records in CRM systems.
- Keep crews on schedule while maintaining high-quality workmanship and customer service.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- 1–3 years of stump grinding experience.
- 5+ years of professional tree care experience or 3+ years of crew leadership experience.
- ISA Certified Arborist (preferred not a requirement) or ability to obtain certification within one year.
- Strong knowledge of safe climbing, pruning, and rigging techniques.
- Understanding of Blue Stake and utility markings.
- Ability to recognize insects, diseases, fungi, and pathogens affecting trees.
- Knowledge of Southwest tree species, desert climates, and regional plant health issues.
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills; sales experience is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage schedules, and lead teams effectively.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work collaboratively.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass DOT physical and health screening.
- Must be insurable under company policies and pass applicable background checks.
Education
High School Diploma or GED required. BS in Agriculture, Horticulture, or equivalent experience preferred.
Physical requirements/Working conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 35 pounds. Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in possibly extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of, MVR review, DOT physical, and criminal background check in accordance with applicable fair chance laws.
