Road & Rail Services is seeking an experienced Traveling Railcar Repair Technician based in Fulton County, Georgia. This is a field-based opportunity for a skilled railroad professional with previous freight railcar repair experience, welding capabilities, and the flexibility to travel to different work locations.
This position is intended for someone who already understands the fundamentals of freight car inspection and repair. Previous railcar repair experience and welding experience are required. This is not an entry-level opportunity.
You'll use your existing skills to identify defects, complete authorized repairs, and help ensure rail equipment meets required safety and service standards.
Depending on the project and customer location, your work may include:
Examine freight railcars for structural damage, defects, wear, and maintenance concerns
Determine repair needs based on inspection findings
Complete approved repairs to railcar components and equipment
Perform stick welding and other authorized welding procedures
Complete cutting, grinding, fabrication, and mechanical work
Service and lubricate components when required
Perform required railcar markings and stenciling
Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other repair equipment safely
Maintain accurate inspection and repair documentation
Operate company vehicles and equipment as assigned
Keep work areas organized and free of unnecessary hazards
Complete repairs according to company, customer, and applicable AAR requirements
Follow all site-specific and railroad safety procedures
We're looking for candidates who can bring established railcar maintenance knowledge to the position and perform field assignments with limited supervision.
Qualified applicants should have:
Familiarity with freight railcar components and repair practices
Strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities
Experience using welding equipment, hand tools, and power tools
Ability to understand repair instructions and complete required documentation
Ability to work independently while maintaining quality standards
Valid driver's license
Willingness and ability to travel
Reliable attendance and a safety-first approach
Previous 4G and 5G welding experience is strongly preferred.
Experience as a Railroad Carman, Freight Car Repairer, Railcar Welder, Railcar Mechanic, or Railcar Maintenance Technician may be particularly relevant.
This is a travel position based in Fulton County, Georgia. Employees should be prepared to travel to railroad facilities, customer sites, and other project locations according to operational requirements. The length and frequency of assignments may vary.
Work is performed in active railroad and industrial environments. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and changing weather conditions while working around railcars, tracks, machinery, tools, dirt, and noise.
$28.00–$34.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
