Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, prep and pack, and both steam and low-temperature sterilization of instruments and endoscopes following approved procedures.
- Reprocess GI and other endoscopes; manage loaner trays and instrument inventories; route instrument sets to appropriate service lines (robotics, general, cardiac, ortho, neuro, ENT, urology, endoscopy, etc.).
- Maintain accurate processing records and prepare instrument sets for upcoming cases, ensuring instrument integrity and sterility.
- Apply infection control standards and sterile techniques; operate SPD equipment and participate in on-site orientation and cross-training as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with operating room teams and service line leaders to ensure timely instrument turnaround and policy compliance.
Requirements
- Certification: CRCST (HSPA) required; Sterile Processor Certification Verification (equivalency) accepted; preferred additional certifications include CER, CIS, CHL.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years SPD experience; 1 year in a Level 1 academic medical center with 20+ ORs; at least two prior travel assignments of 13 weeks or more.
- Technical proficiency: Decontamination; prep and pack; steam sterilization; low-temperature sterilization; endoscope reprocessing; experience with loaner trays; familiarity with Olympus scopes; DaVinci Robot Xi experience.
- Service lines: Experience across robotics, general, cardiac, orthopedics, neuro, ENT/EENT, eyes, laparoscopic, Uro/Endo; capable with flexible scope high-level disinfection.
- Workplace readiness: Able to work in a hospital SPD environment; float not required; reliable transportation is required due to limited public transit options in the area.
