Responsibilities
- Perform ultrasound procedures across assigned areas to assist in the diagnosis of medical conditions.
- Prepare patients for exams, position them as needed, apply coupling gel, operate ultrasound equipment, and ensure image quality and accuracy.
- Obtain and document imaging, follow established protocols, and adhere to safety and infection control standards.
- Communicate findings clearly to the supervising physician or radiologist; recognize normal and pathologic features and document results appropriately.
- Verify orders and maintain patient records, including adherence to coding guidelines and documentation requirements.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues, perform simple adjustments, and report any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a specialized training program in Ultrasonic Technology or on-the-job training with a registered sonographer preferred.
- Experience: One year of experience performing ultrasound procedures in a hospital, clinic, or physician office preferred.
- Certification/Licensure: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification required upon hire/transfer; RDMS in OB/GYN within 1 year of hire/transfer.
- BLS: Meets the American Heart Association standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
- Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology; knowledge of ultrasound equipment, procedures, protocols, and safety hazards; ability to recognize normal vs. pathological features; clear communication and ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment.
- Eligibility: Ability to work in a hospital/acute care setting and comply with site-specific requirements.
