Responsibilities
- Assess and document the appropriateness of prescribed respiratory therapy, including recommendations, for adult and geriatric patients
- Administer aerosol and oxygen therapy, while maintaining patient charts and progress notes
- Draw arterial blood gases per policy and physician orders, and document results in the medical record
- Provide care to ventilated patients, adjust settings per physician orders and department policies
- Assist in department operations, documentation, and training/supervision of new staff as delegated
- Complete EMR entries, flow sheets, and charges for each patient to ensure accurate record-keeping and billing
Requirements
- Licenses/Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT) credential; Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license (CA)
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required; Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) preferred
- Experience: At least two years of recent experience in the field; three years of technical experience preferred
- Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; Master's Degree preferred
- Additional: Able to work in a high-acuity, adult-geriatric care setting; comply with state-specific licensure requirements; capable of working the listed shift and occasional night coverage if needed
- Licensure note: CA requires RCP licensure; CA/OR/HI regions require NBRC-RRT or NBRC-CRT credential
