
Overview
Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) travel assignment in San Luis Obispo, California. Start date 08/24/2026 for 13 weeks. Pay range $1,929–$2,084 per week with 36 guaranteed hours per week. Shift: 3x12-night schedule. Setting: a 162-bed short-term acute care facility with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county-designated trauma center.

Responsibilities
- Plan and provide nursing care for patients in the PCU, including monitoring and responding to evolving conditions.
- Accurately interpret ECG rhythms and manage care during life-threatening emergencies; collaborate with the care team to implement rapid interventions.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and transfusions safely; manage IV lines and blood products as ordered.
- Care for indwelling catheters and drains; operate and troubleshoot standard monitoring equipment; verify alarm settings per policy.
- Support post-procedure care such as post–coronary intervention management, femostop use after femoral access, and post‑pacemaker or post‑AICD placement; care for patients with stable acute coronary syndromes.
- Supervise and delegate appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel within scope of practice; adhere to the chain of command and document care accurately.
Requirements
- License: Current RN license in the state of practice (California)
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within 6 months of hire; NIHSS competency
- Experience: At least two years of recent nursing experience in the field; six months of cardiac step-down or telemetry experience in the last two years preferred
- Special requirements: Ability to work night shift (7:00 PM–7:30 AM); willing to float to medical-surgical units if assigned
