Overview

Responsibilities
- Deliver direct nursing care to adult patients in a Progressive Care/step-down unit, including assessment, monitoring, medication administration, and documentation
- Monitor vital signs, hemodynamics, lab values, and clinical status; respond quickly to changes and escalate per protocol
- Administer medications and IV therapies per physician orders; manage lines, drains, and monitoring equipment
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, case management, and other care team members to implement individualized care plans
- Provide patient and family education on diagnoses, treatment plans, discharge readiness, and safety precautions
- Maintain accurate charting in the electronic health record; participate in shift handoffs and care transitions
- Manage care for common PCU conditions such as sepsis, heart failure, hypertensive emergencies, respiratory failure, COPD, CKD, substance use issues, status epilepticus, and encephalopathy
- Promote patient safety, infection control, and adherence to hospital policies and procedures
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years RN experience in a high-acuity medical, intermediate, or step-down unit
- ACLS and BLS certifications
- Ability to work a 2x4 night schedule and adapt to unit demands
- Proficiency in patient assessment, vital signs interpretation, IV therapy, and advanced monitoring
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective teamwork and handoffs
- Ability to document accurately and meet regulatory and unit standards
